Cloud computing 101 for Businesses
The disruption of cloud computing to the IT channel
how to connect and use
simple, easy, quick and just like your PC
Using a hosted desktop is very simple and, once you are using it, no different from a normal PC or Mac or Mobile Device. You can connect via the internet, VPN or direct connection to the login portal and from there jump into your infrastructure.

Simple Steps
1. Browse to the web-based login screen
2. Type in your username and password
3. Select your desktop or a specific application
4. Use the desktop as if installed locally

Thin Clients
If your company is looking into buying PCs, thin clients are a fantastic alternative. In essence, they comprise a micro PC, which has no moving parts and is extremely cost effective. In fact, they're almost disposable devices because your environment, data and applications are stored in our data centre. The thin client simply provides a connection device to the hosted desktop via the internet and automatically connects to our hosted desktop technology, presenting you with your Windows XP-type experience.

The thin client is small and easy to install. Just plug in your keyboard, mouse and screen(s) and connect it to your broadband router or network. We typically recommmend the HP t Series thin client, but also work with other vendors such as Wyse, Cranberry, ChipPC or IGEL in order to get the best features for our customers.

Benefits of a thin client
Affordable - Just a small monthly fee on top of your hosted desktop
Simple - They don't require ANY management, as it can all be done remotely
Reliable - They almost never break, as they have no moving parts
Sleek - They look great, make no noise, and take up next to no room
Easy - They come pre-configured and can be up and running in less than 5 minutes
Power efficient - Thin clients use around 20% of the power of a PC. PCs typically use around 300w per year, which equates to a annual bill of £300 or more

Do I have to use a thin client?
No, you can use a standard PC, laptop, or even an internet cafe machine to connect to a hosted desktop - all you need is an internet connection. A thin client simply offers a great alternative as it saves a lot of money when compared to traditional PCs. With ThinkGrid, you can either purchase your own thin clients or purchase from a certified partner.

Who manages the thin clients?
ThinkGrid's partners can easily do that for you, remotely managing the devices from an operation centre to ensure that they're secure and running as they should be. In the unlikely event that the worst happens and your thin client fails, many of our partners will provide "hot-spares" to just plug and go.
